Did You Know? (Shift Happens) Co-Creator Scott McLeod Talks Ed Tech
In August 2006, blogger Karl Fisch produced a presentation that would go on to become an Internet video sensation. Another edu-blogger, Scott McLeod who writes Dangerously Irrelevant, stumbled on the presentation and requested permission to add some flare to the piece. The resulting video, Did You Know? (Shift Happens), received more than five million hits [...]

Bloggers Reflect on ISTE 2010
One month ago today I was at the Colorado Convention Center eagerly anticipating the official start of ISTE 2010. Now that the cool breezes of June have given way to the heat and humidity of late July, I find myself reminiscing about the experiences at the premier education technology conference.
Thank you to all the [...]
ISTE 2010 Session Handouts Available Online
It’s nearing midnight and despite an impending early morning wake-up call, I’m still awake. I’ve been browsing the ISTE 2010 custom program search and reading through handouts from various conference sessions.
I was only able to attend maybe 2 percent of the sessions I wanted to see at the annual ISTE conference last month. I’m grateful [...]
Digital Storytelling Brings Education to Life
My sixteen-month-old son is obsessed with the perennial children’s favorite, Corduroy by Don Freeman. I must have read that book at least 50 times in the last month. The official numbers from ISTE 2010 are in and they are impressive. The slow Wi-Fi during major events can be explained in part by the 16,500 devices trying to connect at the same time. Also, my sore feet can attest to the accuracy of the exhibit hall numbers. Walking that floor was like hiking a [...]
What was your top ISTE 2010 take-away?
I think the ISTE conference is scheduled the last week in June because the organizers know that people need the long holiday weekend just to recover. With almost 1,000 different sessions, over 1,500 presenters and 12,448 attendees, it’s almost impossible to avoid information overload.
My top take-away this year was a big list of free apps [...]
Hot Links from the Media Specialists SIG Learning Tools Smack-down
One of the hottest sessions at ISTE 2010 this year was the annual free tools smack-down hosted by SIGMS. Here are a few of the sites that we found particularly interesting:
The Week In Rap – http://theweekinrap.com/ – provides a free weekly summary of current events in a hip-hop music video for teens and students.
Tagxedo – [...]
