Chrome for Mac User Friendly, Minimalistic

It’s been nearly 16 months since Google launched its Web browser Chrome by sending a 36-page comic to bloggers and developers in September 2009. However, as a Mac user, last week was my first chance to take Google Chrome for a test drive.

Although Google Chrome for Mac is still in beta, I had no trouble using it to navigate the Web.  And the “omnibar” feature, which is a combined search and address box, gave the browser a slick, minimalistic look.  I also like the “incognito” feature, which allows a user to access the Web without recording a record of the browsing history. This will be great for those guilty-pleasure sessions of checking out celebrity gossip on Perez Hilton’s blog.

I also found it much easier to use than my current browser when working in Google Docs. As I’ve been using Google’s cloud computing capabilities more for collaborative projects, it’s great to have a way to access my Web docs without the jerky browsing issues I sometimes had with Firefox.

It appears that the security features of Google Chrome are on par or even perhaps a bit better than other popular Web browsers such as Firefox and Explorer.

This is my first day on Chrome, but so far I’m impressed. Have you tried Google’s contribution to the browser market yet? Does anyone plan to install Google Chrome on their school computers? Let us know why or why not.
