NECC09 Teaser Videos Wanted

NECC is always a great conference, but the high quality of the presentations inevitably leads to a problem: The sheer volume of sessions is challenging to digest and filter. How can and should I decide which sessions to attend in person? The conference program is now available online, and the online conference planner certainly provides a great tool for identifying prospective sessions to attend, but I still would like more guidance in selecting my NECC sessions. If you share this desire, perhaps this blog post with inspire some creative help.

I’d like to hereby officially invite all presenters at NECC 2009 to submit a “teaser video” about your presentation. What is a teaser video? Think of it as a SHORT, no longer than 2-3 minute marketing spot for your NECC session. We’ve used teaser trailers the past two years in the free, worldwide K-12 Online Conference, and I’ve found these short videos often succeed in piquing my own interest and convincing me to watch/attend the actual presentation once it is published online. Here are a few of my favorite teaser trailers from the 2008 and 2007 K-12 Online Conference.

Maine educators Alice Barr, Bob Sprankle, and Cheryl Oakes created a teaser using Animoto for their 2008 keynote address “How Can I Become Part of this ReadWriteWeb Revolution?”

Philadelphia educator H. Songhai created a YouTube video as his teaser for his 2008 presentation, “What did you do in school today, last month and three years ago?”

Michigan educator Liz Kolb also created a YouTube video as a teaser for her 2007 K12Online presentation, “Cell Phones as Classroom Learning Tools.”

Australian educator Chris Betcher created a YouTube video as a teaser for his 2008 K12Online presentation, “I Like Delicious Things: An Introduction to Tagging.”

What will NECC 2009 presenters come up with for teaser videos this year? If you’re a presenter or co-presenter, it’s up to you to answer that question! Remember you can directly post your own teaser to the ISTEconnects blog by registering as a guest blogger! :-)
