Ustream on your iPhone
Just in time for the U.S. inauguration tomorrow: An iPhone application to view Ustream broadcasts! Hat tip to Michael Arrington. A WiFi network connection is required to use the app. The iTunes description is:
A live and recorded video viewing application with interactive chat functionality. The application allows users to login with their Ustream account, view both live Ustream broadcasts and recorded video, and see upcoming Ustream broadcast events. In the application’s live section, users can see both featured (selected by Ustream) and top (based on number of viewers) broadcasts, and search for live broadcasts. Broadcasts with a chatroom will display chat messages from viewers, and allow the mobile application user to send chat messages to the chatroom via the phone.
What will the availability of this “webstream in my hand” functionality mean for NECC 2009? Even sooner, what will it mean for Educon 2.1 this weekend, January 23-25?!
In my brief testing of this Ustream iPhone application this evening, it seemed easy to find an archived session by clicking the “Archived” tab at the bottom of the screen and then the magnifying glass/seach icon in the upper right corner. I readily found the Ustream archives for the “Crystal Darkness” documentary post-show we recorded last week from the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma, by doing a simple keyword search for “Crystal Darkness.” As more and more content is published to Ustream, I think the importance of using consistent tags for different events will increase.
The exaflood is coming. Are we ready?
